We’re excited to announce that we’re teaming up with Summerville Fitness for another workshop! This class, led by Christina Summerville (PT), will focus on foot health and teach you techniques to alleviate foot pain, build strength and mobility, and better understand the deep connection between your feet and the rest of your body.

Our feet are our foundation – they’re strongly connected to the rest of the body, but are often overlooked, overworked, and painful. Luckily, Christina Summerville (PT) of Summerville Fitness has designed a workshop that dives deep into all aspects of foot health. In this workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn how your feet are interconnected with the rest of your body (focusing specifically on the hips and core)
  • Practice standing and walking to counteract the negative effects of the modern lifestyle
  • Discover useful techniques to help with bunions, plantar fasciitis, heel pain, hip pain, knee pain, and back pain
  • Perform exercises that help to build better arches in your feet and improve the strength and flexibility of your hips, ankles and feet
  • Learn massage techniques using Yoga Tune Up® Therapy Balls to help improve pliability, coordination, awareness, strength and circulation of your feet
  • Learn the benefits of going barefoot and wearing minimalist/barefoot shoes

About the instructor: Christina has been practicing as a physical therapist for 24 years.  She is the only health care provider in the Buffalo area that is certified in Neurokinetic Therapy ®  (NKT) Level 2. Using NKT she finds dysfunctional movement patterns and helps correct a root cause of pain that may go unidentified by other practitioners.  She also incorporates her knowledge of Yoga Tune Up ® , MELT Method ®, and trigger point therapy in her sessions. Christina’s passion is to help active adults  & teens get out of pain so they can return to their favorite sports and activities, without resorting to medications or surgeries.

About Yoga Tune Up®: Yoga Tune Up® is a fitness therapy format built around the three P’s – Pain, Posture and Performance. It helps eradicate pain, improve posture and enhance performance through a unique blend of yoga, Corrective Exercise, Self-Massage, and Breath Strategies. By helping to identify and target your “body blind spots”; areas that are most overused, underused, or misused, YTU heals damaged muscle, increases strength and establishes healthy movement patterns.

Yoga Tune Up® therapy balls are not your typical myofascial release tools. Even more effective than foam rollers, they can be used to target specific trigger points and high-tension areas in your body. Their grippy texture helps with precision, so you can effectively release tension and relieve various aches and pains ranging from neck stiffness to plantar fasciitis. Are there exercises you learned during your teacher training that you haven’t done or tried to teach since? Do you find it difficult to imagine your clients performing Snake or Star on the Reformer? This instructor workshop is built for those of us who want to build the skills needed to teach our clients the entire repertoire of Reformer exercises created by Joseph Pilates, even Russian Squats!

Join Hayley and Keirsten of Long + Lean Pilates in an exploration of what keeps us from teaching the advanced Classical Pilates Reformer exercises. The workshop will break down 7 advanced exercises from the classical Reformer repertoire and flesh out:

  • Obstacles that make the exercise challenging
  • Elements of each exercise
  • How to teach each element
  • Preparatory exercises
  • Step-by-step progressions into each exercise
  • Modifications
  • How to build a class that works up to the exercise

You will leave this workshop with the ability to progress your clients through the entire Reformer repertoire, including advanced exercises, and find variety and challenging content for your classes within the original work. The workshop will take place on Sunday April 28th, 2019 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Long + Lean Pilates. Reserve your spot here.

March is upon us and for Pilates lovers, that means another round of March Matness! March Matness is an international event created to educate the world about Joseph Pilates’ original mat work. The goal of March Matness is to have you perform one classical Pilates mat exercise each day during the month of March. This year, we are joining in on the March Matness celebration with a Classical Pilates Mat Class Pop-up event at Revolution Buffalo.

In the Long + Lean March Matness celebration class you will execute the 34 Classical Pilates Mat exercises, with no breaks in between, just as Joe intended. The classical mat work is rarely presented in its pure, unadulterated form, and we are SO excited to share it with you so you can feel how amazing (and challenging) Pilates mat classes can be. Check out the event details below and reserve your spot here.
