Which Pilates Teacher Training Track Is Right for You?
You love Pilates, and you’re curious about teaching. But where do you start? Do you need to train on every piece of equipment, or can you focus on mat or Reformer?
At I·D Pilates, we offer four teacher training tracks so you can choose a path that fits your interests and goals. Each begins with the same foundation: Mat 1: Movement Principles + Fundamentals.
Here’s how the tracks fit together.
Mat Certification
Your training path: Mat 1 + Mat 2
If you’re interested in teaching Mat Pilates, this track focuses on the movement principles and classical mat sequence that form the foundation of your teaching.
You’ll begin with Mat 1: Movement Principles + Fundamentals, then continue with Mat 2: Classical Mat Sequence.
This may be a good fit if you enjoy mat classes and want to focus your training on exercises that can be taught without large Pilates equipment.
Reformer Certification
Your training path: Mat 1 + Reformer
Love working on the Reformer? This track allows you to focus on Reformer training while building a foundation in Pilates movement principles.
You’ll complete Mat 1: Movement Principles + Fundamentals before beginning the Reformer module. Mat 1 is a prerequisite for Reformer training, even if your goal is to teach primarily on the equipment.
This may be a good fit if you’re especially interested in teaching Reformer classes or sessions.
Mat + Reformer Certification
Your training path: Mat 1 + Mat 2 + Reformer
If you’d like to teach both Mat and Reformer Pilates, this track brings the two together.
Your training includes Mat 1: Movement Principles + Fundamentals, Mat 2: Classical Mat Sequence, and Reformer.
This may be a good fit if you enjoy both types of Pilates and want the flexibility to teach in either setting.
Comprehensive Certification
Your training path: All six modules
Our comprehensive track includes:
- Mat 1: Movement Principles + Fundamentals
- Mat 2: Classical Mat Sequence
- Reformer
- Trapeze Table
- Chair
- Barrels
You’ll begin with Mat 1. From there, you can complete the remaining five modules in any order and at your own pace.
This may be a good fit if you want to expand your training across mat Pilates and the full range of studio equipment.
Where Should You Begin?
Think about the classes you love taking and the kind of teaching you’re interested in. Are you drawn to mat work? Do you picture yourself teaching on the Reformer? Would you like to explore the full studio equipment repertoire?
You don’t have to have every answer before reaching out. We can help you understand the options and choose a starting point.
These tracks outline the training modules for each path. We’ll also walk you through prerequisites and the additional requirements for completing your certification.
